Tourism and Migration Statistics - January 2021

Key Facts

Total arrivals for the month of January 2021 was 227 of which 63 were Cook Islanders living overseas and 164 are returning Cook Islanders and work permit holders. Since April 16th 2020, Cook Islands declared “as a COVID-19 free zone” however, the escalating threat of the pandemic COVID-19 has forced countries to close their borders.

On the 19th of January 2021, an extra flight was added to make two international flights a week, there continued to be exemptions applied to the border closure to allow all Cook Islanders and work permit holders to return to Rarotonga. Passengers must undergo a COVID-19 test within 96 hours of their flight departing Auckland, return a negative result, and complete a health clearance exit process at the Auckland International Airport.

The total departures for January 2021 was 477 of which 304 were Cook Islands Residents who left for a short term or permanently.
