Tourism and Migration Statistics - December 2020

Key Facts

Total arrivals for the month of December 2020 was 255 of which 122 were Cook Islanders living overseas and 133 are returning Cook Islanders and work permit holders. A total number of 202 departures left for a short term or permanently. Since April 16th this year, Cook Islands declared "as a COVID-19 free zone" however the escalating threat of the pandemic COVID-19 has forced countries to continue to close their borders.

With one international flight a week, there are exemptions applied to the border closure that allows all Cook Islanders and work permit holders to return to Rarotonga. They must undergo a COVID-19 test within 96 hours of their flight departing Auckland, return a negative result, and complete a health clearance exit process at the Auckland International Airport.
