Vital Statistics and Population Estimates - June Quarter, 2022
Vital Statistics and Population Estimates is a quarterly report on the total and resident population estimate based on vital events of birth and deaths plus net migration data derived from tourism migration data. It also reports on the various vital events such as births, deaths and marriages. Some basic demographic crude rates such as for birth, death and infants deaths including natural increase are also reported in this release.

Quarterly Change
In the March 2022 quarter compared with the June 2022 quarter:
- There were 63 live Births registered for this quarter, increasing by 6.0 per cent with 34 births being females and 29 births were males.
- Number of Deaths recorded stood at 31, increasing by 10.7 per cent. 17 deaths being females and 14 deaths being males.
- Crude birth rates decreased to 4.0 live births per 1,000 population or a 7.2 per cent lower than the rate recorded in June quarter 2022. Averaging to four births per 1,000 population
- Crude deaths rates increased to 2.0 deaths per 1,000 population or 9.3 per cent over March quarter 2022. Averaging to two deaths per 1,000 population
- Total Marriages rose by 46.7 per cent. 85 per cent were visitors and 15 per cent marriages were residents
Annual Change
From June year 2022 to June year 2021
- Cook Islands Total population estimates increased by 4.9 per cent (19,200 people) when compared to June quarter 2021 (18,300 people)
- Resident population estimates fell by 9.3 per cent (15,600 people)
