Vital Statistics and Population Estimates - March Quarter, 2020.

Vital Statistics and Population Estimates is a quarterly report on the total and resident population estimate based on vital events of birth and deaths plus net migration data derived from tourism migration data. It also reports on the various vital events such as births, deaths and marriages. Some basic demographic crude rates such as for birth, death and infants deaths including natural increase are also reported in this release.

Quarterly Change:

In the March 2020 quarter compared to the December 2019 quarter:

  • Total Births were less by 16.7 percent. 27 births were males and 36 were females.
  • Total Deaths were lower by 40.0 per cent. 23 deaths were males and 12 deaths were females.
  • Crude birth rates increased by 3.6 per 1000 population and Crude death rates increased by 2.0 per 1000 population
  • Marriages dropped by 30.8 percent. 89.1 percent of marriages this quarter were visitors and 10.9 percent were residents 

Annual Change

From June year 2018 to June year 2019:

  • Cook Islands Total population estimates increased by 8.6 percent
  • Resident population estimates increased by 7.5 percent
